About
Well Water Notebook is a small reference site for people whose drinking water comes from a private well. Information about testing is scattered across federal agencies, state environmental and health departments, county health offices, and university extension programs. We gather it, summarize it in plain English, and link back to the original source.
How pages are made
- We draft pages with the help of AI tools. A person reviews them, and every factual claim links to a primary source (EPA, CDC, a state agency, a county health department, a university extension service, or the lab's own published information).
- Anything we can't verify, such as a price, a lab name, a phone number, or a rule, gets left out instead of guessed.
- Every guide and county page shows a "last checked" date. Agencies change their rules and prices, so always confirm with the source before you rely on something.
What this site is not
We aren't a laboratory, a health department, or a water-treatment company, and nothing here is medical, legal, or engineering advice. We never say whether a particular well's water is safe to drink. See the disclaimer.
